The first album we've heard from Pink since Funhouse (2008). I have to say I was like an child on Christmas day listening to the album on monday. We've already heard Blow Me (One Last Kiss) but after listening to the full album I don't think the buzz single does the album justice. I'll elaborate;
The first song on the album is Are We All We Are which has a punk vibe but is musically darker. Lyrically it questions society which is definitely P!nk. A dark introduction to the album but very catchy with memorable lyrics and a bass line that stands out.
Next up is Blow Me (One Last Kiss) which if Are We All We Are is Just Like A Pill then Blow Me (One Last Kiss) is Raise Your Glass. It's the side of Pink that's definitely more Pop then R&B or Rock. It's a good song, but by no means anything special compared to some of the other songs on the album.
After Blow Me (One Last Kiss), Try comes as a bit of a shock, the over-production of the previous song makes Try stand out even more. Musicaly it's simplistic, but a song you can have on repeat all day yet it will still have an affect on you. It's emotional and is a perfect example of P!nk's maturity on the album. Easily my favorite song on the album.
Just Give Me A Reason is similar to Try in terms of music simplicity. It features the singer of Fun. and although it's nice to listen to as background music, never really gets going. It has a positive attitude and follows the theme of the album: learning to live again after falling out with a loved one.
The songs after seem more like fillers rather then being the main action of the album. The next song that grabs my attention is Slut Like You which isn't actually as bad as it sounds. Similar to Stupid Girls in terms of P!nk's aggressive style of feminism through the use of humor and imitating the the type of girls we all love to hate. It's just a fun song to listen to, sounding a bit like Avril Lavigne (in a good way). Walk of Shame and Here Comes The Weekend (Featuring Eminem) also follows the party style vibe.
Here Comes The Weekend is a song that you can tell from the beginning features Eminem through the outlandish drum beat and just raw quality it possesses. I'll admit that although I was exited to hear what P!nk and Eminem had conjured up after Won't Back Down (Recovery), I was disappointed with Eminem's verse seeing as it didn't have Eminem's usual swagger and isn't a song that didn't really stand out for me.
The penultimate song on the album is Where Did The Beat Go? which has a catchy rhythm and sounds a lot like P!nk's older stuff. An important feature of any album where the artist has taken an hiatus beforehand, stopping the old school fans complaining that "she's changed". Overall it's an album where you can tell the artist and producer have actually spent time over and there's no selling out on it. It's proper P!nk material with funny songs, sad songs, pop songs and rocks songs showing great diversity and perseverance from P!nk.
